Hello! My name is Amber & I'm so glad you're here! :)

I’m a gardener/plant lover residing in Wilmington, North Carolina. I started BGG on Instagram in 2019 as a way to highlight women like me and their passion for growing food and taking care of plants.

When I got into gardening a few years back, I spent a lot of my time looking up tips, ideas and information about how to start a garden and I noticed that most of the people involved with this hobby never really looked like me (or I was just having a really hard time finding them)! Gardening has brought me such a deep sense of both happiness and peace over the last few years that I really wanted to create a space to share the joy of other black women doing what they love!

Gardening is self care and a skill set that no one can ever take away from you. Tending to tiny green lives is the most important thing I do to maintain my own sanity. Black women deserve to have a community that supports and encourages them to step out of their comfort zone and to get a little dirty!
