The Pressed Wildflower

The Pressed Wildflower is my creative outlet. I began it shortly after I started Black Girls Gardening in 2019 but didn't start selling my work until 2021. It's a place where I get to use some of the flowers I harvest from the garden to make art. Each of my pieces showcases the delicate beauty of nature, capturing the intricate details and vibrant colors of flowers. Whether in hanging frames, candles, or other unique home décor, every item tells a story of nature’s elegance, bringing a little bit of the outdoors inside.

Flower Pressing

Pressing flowers is an art that involves carefully preserving the delicate beauty of blooms by flattening them under controlled pressure. The process begins with selecting fresh flowers at their peak of color and health (which is sometimes hard for me as I like to let the bee's and butterflies enjoy every last bit) but when pressing flowers, you want them in the best possible condition! Each flower is then carefully placed between sheets of paper to protect it, and those sheets should go in between a book with something stacked on top for a little weight or into a flower press and screwed down.

The pressing process itself usually takes a couple weeks, it all really depends on the flower’s moisture content and size. Throughout this time, the flower undergoes a subtle transformation as it loses moisture and gradually flattens out, retaining its original shape and color. Some flowers are more fragile or delicate than others and may require extra care. The pressing process is not rushed—every step is done slowly and with intention, allowing the flowers to dry properly and retain their natural beauty.

Once pressed, each flower is handled with care and used to create lasting works of art. From start to finish, pressing flowers is about patience, respect for nature, and a deep understanding of how to preserve something fleeting and delicate for years to come.

At The Pressed Wildflower, I offer a personalized touch, turning the simple act of pressing flowers into meaningful works of art that celebrate nature's beauty in a creative way.
